Understanding Florida RV Insurance

While owning an RV can be an exciting time filled with adventures to new places, you have to make sure that you have the correct amount of insurance coverage to keep yourself protected.  The first step in choosing Florida RV insurance is to understand the coverages that you are required to have on your recreational vehicle.

Minimum Coverages

You are required to carry specific minimum coverages on your Florida RV insurance in order to register it.  When looking for insurance, you need to make sure that the policy includes at least:

  • $10,000 personal injury protection
  • $10,000 property damage liability

Personal Injury Protection

Personal injury protection (PIP) coverages pay for your injuries if you are in an accident, regardless of who is at fault.  PIP coverages will pay 80% of your reasonable medical expenses for treatment of your injuries, 60% of the wages you lose due to being unable to work due to injuries, and up to $5,000 in death benefits if you die as a result of the accident.

Property Damage Liability

Florida RV insurance property damage liability covers damages to personal property, such as vehicles, fences, buildings, or utility poles that may occur due to you or someone who is driving your RV.

While these are the minimum coverages required by Florida law, you need to remember that any costs that are over these minimums will have to be paid out of your pocket.  If you are in a serious accident, medical procedures can easily go over the PIP minimums, and if you hit another vehicle, $10,000 will generally not cover the cost to replace most vehicles.  This means you will have to pay the extra costs out of pocket, which can quickly result in financial difficulty.

Finding Cheap Florida RV Insurance

When you are getting ready to hit the road in your RV, you need to make sure that it is insured properly.  However, you may find that it is rather difficult to find cheap Florida RV insurance.  There are many factors that go into determining RV insurance rates, and understanding them will help you make the best decision for your RV insurance.

Florida Storage

While crime rates in Florida are lower than other areas, the potential for hurricanes does affect your insurance rates.  If you are storing your RV in Florida, the increased possibility for water and wind damage will result in higher rates.

Recreational or Full Time Use

There are different policies available for those that use their RVs for recreational use, such as on the weekends, and full time use that involves significant travel.  When looking for cheap Florida RV insurance, you want to make sure that you take advantage of these differences.  However, you must be honest about your use, otherwise you could end up paying fines and other costs if the truth comes out after an accident.

Policy Discounts

You can also help yourself in finding cheap Florida RV insurance by taking advantage of policy discounts.  Most insurance companies offer discounts when you have multiple policies, such as auto, homeowner’s, and the like.  Additionally, most companies will also provide discounts for those who are members of RV associations, so be sure to mention this when looking for insurance.

Insurance companies offer varying ranges of deductibles, but it is important to remember that the if you choose the lowest deductible amount, you will pay a higher premium.  However, if you choose […]

Finding the Best Florida Motorhome Insurance

If you own a recreational vehicle, commonly referred to as a motorhome, in Florida, you will need to make sure that you have the coverage you need.  Even though you may already have automotive insurance, you will need an additional policy that specifically covers your Motorhome in order to be in compliance with Florida laws.

There are growing numbers of RVs on the roads in Florida, which also means an increase in the number of larger vehicle accidents.  If you want to make sure you are protected if an accident happens, you need to find the best Florida RV insurance.

State Minimum Coverages

As with all vehicle policies, there are certain minimum coverages that are required by Florida law.  These coverages are $10,000 in personal injury protection, and $10,000 in property damage liability.  However, this might not be the best Florida motorhome insurance coverage amounts.

Most accidents involving traditional automobiles result in higher costs than these minimums.  When you consider the massive size of an average motorhome, it quickly becomes obvious that they pose a considerably larger threat when involved in an accident – especially if the other vehicle is much smaller.   Any costs that are over the $10,000 minimums will have to come out of your own pocket, which can have devastating long-term effects on your finances.

Other Considerations for the Best Florida RV Insurance

Another consideration in finding the best Florida recreational vehicle coverage is your own needs.  Your motorhome is essentially your home away from home.  This means that you are likely to have many of your personal possessions, including valuables, clothing, and additional equipment with you in the motor home.  If you are in an accident, all of these things have the potential to be lost or destroyed.  If you do not have sufficient coverage, […]

RV Insurance, Rising Costs… and How You Can Save

Every driver across the United States has some kind of car insurance policy. Homeowners within the country have insurance policies to cover their homes in the event of something happening to their homes. Though, if you have an alternative investment like a recreational vehicle, is it the right choice to get an insurance policy to protect it?

According to many industry experts, the answer is actually yes. Even though some people find a recreational vehicle insurance policy superfluous or, in other words, unnecessary doesn’t mean that it’s not an insurance policy that’s needed to protect the vehicle as an investment. Because, it actually is.

Recreational vehicle, otherwise known as RV insurance, is known to provide insurance coverage for motor homes, travel trailers, campers and even horse trailers.  Many recreational vehicle insurance policies provide different coverage options to insure the vehicle, its driver and any associated third parties from occurrences that may take place.

In Florida, there’s a wide contingent of recreational vehicle owners, which is in part to the relatively open climate and coastal nature of the state. Due to this, there are many Florida RV insurance providers who can help you find a plan to best suit the needs of your vehicle and yourself.

With the right RV insurance coverage….

Floridians who happen to own recreational vehicles are in luck. Why? It’s because recreational vehicles that are primarily used for personal recreational use are actually able to be insured for up to 250 days per year. This pretty much allows anyone – even across the United States – to travel down south to Florida and enjoy the state’s warmer fall and winter weather.

That’s not the only thing that’s covered […]
